What is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?
IVF is a process that involves retrieving eggs from ovaries and
manually combining them with sperm in a laboratory for fertilisation. The resulting embryos
are carefully monitored and then implanted in the uterus to achieve pregnancy. It is one of
the most effective assisted reproductive technologies available today.
Who is a candidate for IVF treatment?
IVF is recommended for couples unable to conceive after at least
one year of trying. It is particularly helpful for women with blocked or damaged fallopian
tubes, men with low sperm count, women with ovulation disorders or endometriosis,
unexplained infertility, and couples who have tried other fertility treatments without
success.
What are the steps involved in IVF?
IVF involves five main steps: (1) Ovarian
stimulation — fertility medications stimulate multiple egg production;
(2) Egg retrieval — eggs are collected through a minor procedure;
(3) Fertilisation — eggs are combined with sperm in a lab; (4)
Embryo development — embryos are monitored for 3–5 days; (5) Embryo
transfer — the best embryo is transferred to the uterus.
How does age affect the success rate of IVF?
Age is a crucial factor in IVF success rates. The chances of a
successful pregnancy decrease progressively after the age of 35 — especially for women over
40. After 35, the risk of miscarriage and chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo also
increases. Dr. Prabhleen Kaur evaluates each patient's ovarian reserve individually for a
personalised treatment plan.
Is IVF costly? Are there financing options?
IVF costs vary depending on the patient's age, medical
condition, and the specific protocol required. Costs also differ between cities. Patients
may be eligible to finance the procedure through EMI options, hospital-linked savings plans,
or specific loan programs. Our team will discuss all available financial options during your
consultation.
Does insurance cover the cost of IVF?
Unfortunately, most insurance policies in India do not cover
infertility treatments including IVF, as they are typically considered elective procedures.
However, some group health policies may provide partial coverage. We strongly recommend
checking with your insurance provider for specific details about your plan's coverage.
Hysteroscopy & Laparoscopy
What is laparoscopy and when is it recommended?
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure where a
thin camera (laparoscope) is inserted through small abdominal incisions to examine and treat
internal organs. It is recommended for diagnosing and treating conditions like
endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain, blocked fallopian
tubes, and unexplained infertility.
What is the difference between hysteroscopy and laparoscopy?
Hysteroscopy uses a thin camera inserted
through the cervix to examine and treat the inside of the uterus (fibroids, polyps,
adhesions). Laparoscopy uses small abdominal incisions to view and operate
on the outside of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Both are day-care procedures
with rapid recovery.
How long is recovery after laparoscopic surgery?
Most patients recover within 1–2 weeks from laparoscopic
surgery. You may experience mild discomfort, bloating, and shoulder pain (from the CO₂ gas
used) for a few days. Most women return to light activities within 3–5 days and full
activity within 1–2 weeks. Dr. Prabhleen Kaur will provide specific post-operative
instructions based on your procedure.
Pregnancy & Obstetrics
When should I see a gynaecologist during pregnancy?
You should schedule your first antenatal visit as soon as you
confirm pregnancy — ideally before 8 weeks. Early visits are crucial for establishing due
date, assessing risk factors, initiating supplements like folic acid, and performing early
ultrasounds. For high-risk pregnancies (twins, prior complications, medical conditions),
closer follow-up is essential.
What is a high-risk pregnancy and what extra care is needed?
A high-risk pregnancy involves conditions that increase health
risks for the mother or baby. This includes advanced maternal age (35+), multiple
pregnancies (twins/triplets), pre-existing conditions (diabetes, hypertension, thyroid
disorders), previous preterm birth, or complications in prior pregnancies. High-risk
patients require more frequent monitoring, specialised ultrasounds, and closer coordination
between specialists.
What is the difference between normal delivery and C-section?
In a normal (vaginal) delivery, the baby is born through the
birth canal. Recovery is generally faster (1–2 days hospital stay). In a Caesarean section
(C-section), the baby is delivered via surgical incision in the abdomen and uterus.
C-section is recommended when vaginal delivery poses risks — like fetal distress, placenta
complications, or breech position. Dr. Prabhleen Kaur will discuss the most appropriate

fertility consultations, both partners ideally should be present. If you've had any prior
treatment at another clinic, bringing those reports will help Dr. Kaur provide better, more
tailored advice.
